It’s a small world after all

Posted: Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

A premier iPhone app review site in France had requested to review Photo Effects-Weather last week. Camille had some kind words for us in a pretty elaborate review that went live yesterday. Of course, we had to use Google’s translator to read it.

Yesterday we got contacted by a British photography magazine that wants to do a review of Photo Effects-Weather. I think this review will even be in a printed magazine. How awesome is that? Wish I could get a copy somehow.

We’re now selling apps in 32 countries. That’s amazing to me. Very fun stuff.

Hey, we still need good reviews on the iTunes store. Please consider writing one if you like our apps. The lack of reviews has made me aware that I also need to write positive reviews for apps I purchase. How else will these companies grow and provide even more great stuff? Why are we motivated to write critical reviews instead of positive ones? Please use our website contact form to let us know how to make our apps even better.

Well, I better get back to working on the Father’s Day app,

Photo Effects-Memorial Day

Posted: Thursday, May 6th, 2010

We’re wrapping up Photo Effects-Memorial Day and hope to have it in the store next week.

“Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service. In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.”

Whether you use Photo Effects-Memorial Day or not, please remember the men and women who gave their lives for our country,

Photo Effects-Weather 1.1

Posted: Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Version 1.1 of Photo Effects-Weather is now available on the iTunes store. We added a sessions manager to save and load multiple versions of your art projects. We also added email sharing in this version.

If you encounter any problems launching version 1.1, delete Photo Effects-Weather from your iPhone or iPad and sync again with iTunes.

Reviews for BabcockApps

I’m a little perplexed what makes a person review an application in the iTunes store. Most people seem to use it to “ask” for new features or complain. What would it take for you to write a good review?

We’ve sold hundreds of applications and very few people take time to write a review. Obviously, our success is dependent on getting more folks to write great reviews. I’m trusting more good reviews will lead to more sales and enable us to keep adding great features.

Any ideas?

Photo Effects-Mother’s Day shipped

Photo Effects-Mother’s Day is available in the iTunes store. This application has more features like a sessions manager and more sharing options. There’s many more features to come. We also already added over 120 more images to the collection in version 1.1 that is being approved by Apple now.

iPad app approved

Posted: Thursday, April 1st, 2010

We’re quite excited. Apple informed us today that our new universal application was approved for the iPad and iPhone!

Developing and releasing Photo Effects-Weather was quite an interesting process for us. Apple provides fantastic tools and documentation. Truly some of the best I’ve seen. However, sometimes it’s hard to see how all the trees are supposed to be combined to build a forest. It gets even more complicated when iPad developers are under an NDA. How much can you share with each other? Did I mention the ever changing iPad SDK?

It’s fun being in on the ground floor of such revolutionary technology like the iPad. Revolutionary? Time will tell but I personally believe this product will change our concept of productivity & media devices like netbooks, laptops, smart phones, movie players, and PDAs.

See you on the cloud,

Relief for Haiti

Posted: Friday, January 29th, 2010

I was quite surprised to get a call from Apple about version 1.1. of StampCalc. They said they would not approve our app because I had added this to the description: “All profits earned though Febrary 15th will be donated to Haiti. You get great a great app, Haiti gets financial help in its time of crisis.

To get StampCalc 1.1 approved, I had to remove this reference to the Haiti relief efforts. The logic does makes sense:
1. It would be an implicit endorsement by Apple because it’s in their store.
2. Accountability. They really don’t know what I did with the money.

Well, we’re still going to donate the profits anyway!

On YouTube today

Posted: Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Well, we’ve kept up the blitz to get StampCalc noticed. A lot more sites now have us listed. The Daily App Show featured us today on the their front page. They even did a YouTube demo which I put on it’s own tab here at babcockapps.com.

I had trouble figuring out where this should go. I didn’t want it buried here in the blog or on the front page where it would require a lot of scrolling to see it. Time for you PR pros to give me direction.

Getting noticed

Posted: Monday, January 11th, 2010

We’re starting to get some notice by app sites. A video review is being done by a website on January 20th. We need to keep getting the word out. Contact us if you know more ways to get noticed. Hey, we’re investing all our resources making great apps. Marketing? What’s that?

I’ve found these sites have StampCalc listed:

whatsoniphone.com
